From the Front Lines – Fencer

TK 51733
Callsign: Fencer
501st approved costumes-
TIE reserve pilot

What is your name and why did you pick your 501st Alias?

My name is Beverly Vaughn, and my call sign is Fencer.
I picked it because I am a saber fencer with Athens Fencing Club,
and it seemed appropriate for a pilot which was my first approved

When did you join the Legion and why?

I joined the 501st Legion in May of 2017. I have always loved
Star Wars and especially the stormtroopers. I would get
my picture taken with a stormtrooper every year at Dragon
Con. When I learned about the 501st and its charity work,
I knew I needed to be a part of it.

Of all of the troops you have been a part of, which one has stood out the most & why?
There have been so many special troops that it would be hard
to narrow it down to one. I would say that the hospital troops,
special needs troops, and the Title 1 school troops would be at
the top of my list. The Dacula Memorial Day parade was my very
first troop so it will always be special as well.

How has being a part of the 501st impacted your life?
Being part of the 501st has brought so much joy into my life and
so many special friends that I now consider to be family. It has
given me the opportunity to be a part of some really fun events and
give back to my community at the same time.

Outside of trooping and 501st related stuff, what do you do for a living, and what are some other interests or hobbies that you have?
I spend my spare time with animals and doing sports. I have a horse and seven
cats at home, and I am a volunteer at North Georgia Zoo. Dressage and fencing are my main sports, but I also enjoy hiking, archery, and aikido.

Can you give us an idea as to the kind of support you get from friends and family regarding the 501st and all the great things that you have done with the GA Garrison?
My family and friends have been extremely supportive of my involvement with the 501st even though most of them would not be caught dead in a costume. They all love the charity aspect, and have learned to embrace the fact that I never grew out of the “Star Wars phase” or my love of stormtroopers.

And lastly, is there anything, Star Wars related or not, that people might not know about you that they might be surprised to find out?
I have been struck by lightning. Explains a lot, right? Sadly I did not get any special powers or even a cool scar for my trouble. I am actively trying to win the lottery though.

Can you find Beverly in our photos?

HINT: Look for the tie reserve in the one below.  In the group of stormtroopers, look for the one the line “aren’t you a little short to be a stormtrooper” would best apply to!
