Callsign: Shadow Ninja
501st approved costume:
Why did you pick your 501st callsign/alias?
Combination of the Shadow Trooper name with my love for martial arts. Also, in introducing my approval on the FB Group, Charles Ecton referred to Shadow Troopers as the “Ninjas” of the Star Wars Universe.
When did you join the Legion and why?
I enlisted as a cadet after meeting Barrett at my local Starbucks in the fall of 2017 (I was officially approved March 27th, 2018). I already had interest in the 501st Legion from seeing appearances at Dragon Con and many other events in the area. As I researched more about the 501st and learned more about the charity events they participated in, I realized this was definitely an organization I wanted to join.
Of all of the troops you have been a part of, which one has stood out the most and why?
Down Syndrome of Atlanta Buddy Walk – This was definitely my most rewarding troop so far. Bringing smiles to the faces these kids (and adults) who work towards their goals and overcome their disabilities on a daily basis in an honor. To be able to give them memories of meeting a Stormtrooper is priceless. And even though the troop took place outside on a 90 degree day, I wouldn’t think twice about doing this event.
How has being a part of the 501st impacted your life?
I have met a lot of amazing people being part of the 501st Legion. I am very proud to call them friends. Being around this group who not only shares the same passion for Star Wars, but other Geek interests in addition to giving back to the community.
Can you give us an idea as to the kind of support you get from friends and family regarding the 501st and all the great things that you have done with the GA Garrison?
My Friends and Family have been great! My daughter quickly joined the Galactic Academy. She has loved Star Wars from an early age and to be able to share this experience with her has meant the World to me. And I actually had a good friend help with her Rey costume. But also I’ll have friends go out of their way and come see us at various troops.
I can’t think of anything Star Wars related. By my age, people realize that I did see the first Star Wars movie in the theater in 1977. But non Star Wars related, an interesting conversation starter is that I have seen the Sun set twice on the same day.
