From the Front Lines – TomG

TKID: TI-31204

Callsign:  I really need to get me one of those one of these days… I’m just “TomG” on the forums.

501st approved costumes?
TIE Pilot (181st). Currently on my “wish list” is some flavor of Clonetrooper, or maybe a Sandie.

Why did you pick your 501st callsign/alias?
See above LOL

When did you join the Legion and why?
April 13th 2016. As for my motivation, it was a combination of being really impressed with the Legion’s charity activities and fan interactions, and being harassed – I mean, “strongly encouraged” – by friends already in the Legion…

Of all of the troops you have been a part of, which one has stood out the most and why?
Lots of memorable troops, but the best are visits to the local children’s hospital. One patient was so excited to see us that she made us wait to have her picture taken until she’d rolled her hair up like Princess Leia’s.

How has being a part of the 501st impacted your life?
I’ve met some amazing, caring, scary-talented people, gotten to make a lot of people happy just by being in costume, and kept my bank account from getting overly large.

Can you give us an idea as to the kind of support you get from friends and family regarding the 501st and all the great things that you have done with the GA Garrison?
My friends and family tend to be very happy that I’ve been able to turn my obsession in a productive direction and put it to good use. Aside from troops to the hospital, I’ve enjoyed visiting a school for the blind, being onstage while the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra played SW music, and having an honest-to-God astronaut transform into a giddy schoolgirl when she saw us. (Talk about surreal!)

And lastly, is there anything Star Wars related or not, that people might not know about you that they might be surprised to find out?

Due to my participation in a friend’s locally produced and locally aired TV series, I ended up with my own IMDB page.

Tom and Darth Vader, circa 1980
